Zoetrope

Zoetrope

Zoetrope consists of film footage inspired by the work of Eadweard Muybridge and the early technology of the zoetrope (a pre-film animation device that produces the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of still images). Peering into Compton Verney's Victorian Women's Library, a series of moving images appear on the ceiling as if you are transported inside a moving zoetrope. The images combine footage of school children who collaborated with M+R by reimagining themselves as creatures influenced by mechanical movements.
