Vessel
Vessel
'Vessel' is an ambitious bronze sculpture standing outside the Museum of Royal Worcester and inspired by their extensive archives. World leading innovations at the porcelain manufactory often resulted in breakages - sometimes by pushing the boundaries of the craft and sometimes intentionally, to destroy imperfect pieces. In both cases the fragments represent a quest for originality, high standards and exquisite beauty. Following archaeological digs, hundreds of these discarded potsherds have been reassembled to reveal long lost histories. 'Vessel' draws on this idea of fragmentation and reconstruction, connecting past and present. The sculpture's silhouette honours a pencil sketch found in an archived sketchbook dating from the mid-19th century.
