Light Lines
Light Lines
'Light Lines' is a memorial artwork commemorating 300 Barnsley soldiers who fell on July 1st 1916 - the first day of The Battle of The Somme. It is one of the most emotive works that we have made and has received an overwhelming and deeply personal response from the people of Barnsley. Light Lines connects past and present by rendering archive photographs as laser etched illuminations. The soldiers stand as a symbol of hope exactly 100 years after they fought and 300 cast medals made by local school children represent memories of home. Light Lines has been registered with the Imperial War Museum as an official war memorial and has won an International Civic Trust Award.
